Представляет собой комплекс «оружие-патрон», так как для него в ЦКИБ СОО был разработан новый крупнокалиберный патрон 12,7×55 мм ПС 12 с несколькими типами пуль.

A Russian large-caliber assault rifle created at the Central Design Bureau for the needs of special forces units of the FSB of Russia, along with the VSSK sniper rifle. It is a "weapon-cartridge" complex, since a new 12.7×55 mm PS 12 large-caliber cartridge with several types of bullets was developed for it at the Central Design Bureau of the SOO.
