A kangaroo mouse or Muad'dib in Fremen language, was a small rodent from the planet Arrakis, which moved by hopping. It was associated with the Fremen earth-spirit mythology

This creature was admired by Fremen for its ability to survive in harsh conditions of Arrakis' open desert. Due to this, it became known as instructor-of-boys and young Fremen were required to learn from their ways of survival.
