Finding RATs in decompiled code

Hi, I'd like to know how to check whether a mod contains a RAT.

I've thought of decompiling it on a blank machine with no internet access, but it still don't know what I'm even looking for. Do I need to look for any outside communication through URLs/IPs?
If code is obfuscated, can the IP/URL also be?
The malware still has to send the details to a URL/IP which can't really be disguised, right? Best I can think of is representing a URL as an array of characters, or even their numeric...
