I almost just lost my hardcore world.

I fell off my gold farm over 100 blocks and thought I was done for. Right before I hit the ground I closed my game and made a manual save to see if my armor would let me survive or if I could do anything in the seconds I had left. I re joined and my velocity was reset and I took no damage. I completely forgot thats a thing in this game.
