I don't understand why Mojang doesn't want to add fireflies?

I understand that when frogs eat fireflies they get sick or die or whatever.

But can't they make it so that the frogs just.. don't eat the fireflies?

I would love it if they added them for ambience, plus crickets, maybe seasons, wind, snow in regular (non hot) biomes.

Making frogs not eat fireflies seems like a really simple solution.
