Is powder grinding worth anymore?

Basically, I managed to reach HoTM7 as the update came out and was ready to grind powder so I could get into gemstone mining for money, but after the update both gemstone mining and powder grinding seem much worse than before... I just wanna know if it's even worth powder grinding anymore since it's gonna take me 10x as long to max my powders. Or should I do something else and give up on mining? I've also seen ppl start mining things like gold, red sand, and gravel for money after the update...
