I’d not been deep in the woods since they started getting sick. The pond was the furthest out I’ve been. Where the canopy used to cloak the sky and shield you from every sunrise or sunset, it’s opened to a jaundiced sky. Crows watched silently atop branches, as the crunching of the leaves beneath our feet was deafening. I’m not sure who, but one of the guys found a raccoon den hiding in a fallen log.
