Long-ish playtime, poor progression, so I'm told

Got around 500 hours in the game, consistently am told my progression really does not reflect that. Which makes sense, I'm not exactly trying to be 100% efficient. But I was curious if anyone had specific tips on how to improve my profile and whatnot, because a lot of the time I'll meet people with lower SB xp who are much more powerful or have vastly greater progress. Any help's appreciated :>
