Neu dungeon map not loading

I prefer the neu map to the skytils one because it allows you to see head icons instead of the little green arrows. The only problem is that when I'm holding my term, the map in my hotbar turns into a feather which doesn't effect skytils map at all, but stops neu from loading rooms. Any fix to this? I don't want to have to swap off my bow just to see how many rooms suround the one im in and where they are.
