After seeing the latest version of SpeedTree on this site a last week I wanted to see if the cracking method had changed. As always I cannot guarantee fully if my way is correct or if it isn't. It took a few days to work it out but I believe I worked out how to fake it. Tested with fbx export and no polygons...
