What is up with servers?

A few months ago servers lagged incredibly bad (for me, even tho i didnt lag), to the point where you could just join the hypixel hub and do nothing else until limboed. This went away for a good while, but yesterday it started coming back? and usually in the night/morning that lag wasnt there, but even after sleeping the night its still there. Anyone experiencing the same?
