Why isn't there deer in Minecraft?

I was building a cabin for me and my girlfriend and I used oak stairs and birch to make a deer head on the wall to fit the forest aesthetic and it got me wondering why the game doesn't have deer. They can be killed for meat, their antlers can be used as a sort of wall mounted armor stand and their heads can be mounted as decoration just like the dragon head (or any others), and they fit the environment of tiagas in particular but really any forest, I get why other forest creatures like bears don't exist because they would be hostile and they don't want hostile mobs that actually exist and can't be used for much anyway, but deer would be passive and have a lot of uses so why not?
