Goal: identify the first actionable loading error before changing your server.

1. Stop the server cleanly and back up its files. Work on a copy when possible.
2. Check the plugin's supported server platform, Minecraft version and Java requirement. A proxy plugin does not belong in a Paper server's plugins directory.
3. Place the correct JAR in the plugins directory, then start the server. Keep one intended version of the plugin.
4. Open logs/latest.log and find the earliest error mentioning that plugin. Read its complete cause chain.

  • UnknownDependencyException: install the named required dependency from its trusted project source, using a compatible version.
  • InvalidDescriptionException: inspect the JAR for plugin.yml and check whether it is the correct platform build.
  • UnsupportedClassVersionError: compare the Java runtime used by the actual startup command with the plugin's requirement.
  • NoSuchMethodError: check the plugin and API versions before assuming a missing configuration setting.
Restart and repeat the original action after one change. If it still fails, post the version list and first complete exception in Server Help. Remove credentials from logs.
